Synopsis - What Is Surfing

WHAT IS SURFING is the definitive documentary staring everyone that have made SURFING for
• what it has been
• what it is
• where it's going
for viewers that are uninformed on the world’s most unique & pure water sport.

From it's beginnings in its History with the Sport of Kings to how the ocean creates waves and where they end up, to the evolution of the board with the materials used, to the growth of surfing in the 20th Century, to the Media in surfing including the magazines, surf films, the art work, the Hollywood movies, cable television and the internet, to the business in surfing with first surf companies, the first surf shops - the apparel, the hula shirt, board shorts, t shirt, surf wax, leg ropes etc…to world's most successful surf companies like Billabong, Quiksilver, Rip Curl & Hurley, to Travel including the surf trip looking for new surfing frontiers and why we need to go.

We cover the different genres in professional surfing like the WQS & WCT pro surfing tours, Big Wave Hunters like Shane Dorian, Garrett McNammarra, Peter Mel & Koby Abberton. Soul surfers like Dave Rastavoich & Joel Tudor. Aerialist surfers like Jamie Obrien, Dane Reynolds & Oscar ''Ozzie''Wright. Pro longboarding from Bonga Perkins, Josh Constable & Beau Young.  Then there are the ALL Time Surfers - the Greatest Surfers of all time like the Duke, Micki Dora, Michael Peterson, Mark Richards, Tom Curren, Mark Occhilupo, Irons Brothers, the Hobgoods, Rob Machado, Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning and then of course the greatest surfer of all - Kelly Slater.

We spend some time going into the history of Competition in surfing where it first started to where it is now and where it's going.  Then there is wave surfing besides catching a wave on a surf board like the most purest way of catching a wave which is body surfing - then there is body boarding, wind surfing, kite boarding, knee boarding, tandem surfing, wave ski riding, Hawaiian canoe riding, skim boarding etc..

We take you to the world greatest & unique surfing locations in Hawaii including Hawaii's Pipeline, Wiamea, Sunset Beach and Jaws. Locations in Australia like the Gold Coast’s Super Bank, Bells Beach, the Noosa points, Margaret River and crazy spots like Cyclops & Ship Sterns Buff. We go to South Africa and look at Jefferies Bay, Cape St Francis, Peru's Chicama, Fiji's Tavarua with Restaurantes & Cloud Break. Then we also look at totally unique laces like canal surfing outside the Haus Der Kunst Museum in Munich Germany - bomb surfing in Copenhagen & surfing the tidal flows in the Amazon River called Pororoca.
Finally we cover the future of surfing with the wave pools, artifical reefs, the competitions and where surfing will be in 50 years from now.
